Student Name: Dalton Mitchell
Remember to write everything you will say for ~2 minutes
Intro
• “Hello Planet Earth, and welcome, you’re listening to Close Discoveries of the Third Kind.
• “Today we’ll talk about … the recent discovery of the possibly life-bearing exoplanet currently known as Ross 128 b, and why it is different from other discovered exoplanets of its kind.”
Segment 1: Begin to introduce an aspect of your topic.
• “In our first segment I want to detail … why Ross 128 b is thought to be eligible for life.”
• With years as long as 9.9 days, Ross 128 b is Earth-sized and orbits around a red dwarf star known as Ross 128. Red dwarfs are the coolest and smallest stars in the known universe, which plays an important part in the possibility of life on Ross 128 b. When compared to the ratio of our planet and our sun, Ross 128 b should be in the habitable zone around its star, just as Earth is for ours.
• While 20 times closer to its star than Earth is to the sun, the nature of the red dwarf means Ross 128 b receives significantly less heat and only slightly more radiation from its star, making for a comfortable medium in terms of temperature.
Segment 2: In this area you will provide more detail.
• “And now I want to talk about… why Ross 128 b is different from other life-eligible exoplanets that we have discovered in the past.”
• The most significant difference between Ross 128 b from other exoplanets, and its biggest advantage, is that its red dwarf star is “quiet”. By quiet, I am referring to the fact that the red dwarf doesn’t lash out at Ross 128 b with flares of ultraviolet and X-ray radiation that would be deadly to any developing life.
• The other significant difference between Ross 128 b and its brethren, is that it is the second closest exoplanet to our solar system at 11 light-years away. The closest exoplanet to us is Proxima b at 4.2 light-years away, but that won’t be the case for long, as Ross 128 b and its star are moving towards our solar system at a steady rate. Within 79,000 years, Ross 128 b will be Earth’s exoplanet neighbor at a distance even closer than Proxima b, and while that may seem like a very long time, when compared to a universe that is billions of years old, it is a fleeting moment in time.

- Being within its star’s habitable zone which allows liquid water to exist and pool on the surface, having a size and climate similar to Earth, orbiting a “quiet” star that increases its safety for life, and moving closer to our solar system with every passing year, Ross 128 b is an outstanding candidate with many advantages towards the possible formation of extraterrestrial life as well as a beacon for scientific studies on how life itself comes into existence.
- "Thanks for tuning into Close Discoveries of the Third Kind, if you wish to know more about Ross 128 b and its future in our discoveries of outer space, then go to www. CloseDiscoveries .com.”

Failure
Back in 3rd or 4th grade, I failed to win first place in a Spelling Bee for my elementary school by a very slight margin. I had expected kids and teachers at the school to be mad at me for my failure, but instead they congratulated me for making it to second place. This experience taught me that failure is not the end of everything that it seems like at first, you can move past it and use it as a lesson on how not to fail the same way in the future.
Goals
One Year Goal: Graduate High-school with a 4.0 GPA by continuing to do good in all of my classes.
Five Year Goal: Graduate College with degrees in design and technology in order to become a game designer or programmer by focusing all of my motivation toward classes that increase my capability in both subjects.

Dishonesty Blog
Dishonesty is a slippery slope that can come with many costs and consequences, it can drive family or friends away from you and make it difficult for them to trust you, even when you are telling the truth. Dishonesty can also harm your professional life in the same way it harms your personal one, if you are caught in a web of lies, you would find it much more difficult to find work in the world or to be accepted into a good school, as they don't trust you to do satisfactory work and question your overall dependability.
Pillars of Respect
Order of Importance to Me:
1. Honoring the Rules, for without respect for the laws and rules that have been established, our society would be completely chaotic and respect would be a sparsity in our world.
2. Appreciating Differences, for without respect for the differences everyone has in life we would have a difficult time getting along with and showing respect to others who are different than us or don't agree with the same things we agree with.
3. Manners, for without good manners we cannot truly respect others and show them the consideration that we want shown to ourselves.
4. Language, for without positive language we cannot prove to others that we deserve the respect of others.

I Am Thankful For...
People: My parents, for providing and caring for me, as well as my teachers, for devoting their time and careers to teach me and others of my generation.
Things: All of my physical possessions, whether they be essential or nonessential to my daily life, I appreciate that I have them and do not take for granted the things that others do not have the privilege to have for themselves.
Others: My overall healthiness and well being, for not being inflicted with any life-hindering disabilities, and for growing up in a country that has all the essentials to live a good life and have a good career.

Complaining Post
1. To determine and teach us how often we as human beings complain in an average day, and that preventing ourselves from complaining takes more diligence than one might expect.
2. That trying not to complain is harder than it may seem, as our brains make judgements in an instant sometimes, even without our intention of doing so.

Procrastination Article by James Clear
“Procrastination is a challenge we have all faced at one point or another. For as long as humans have been around, we have been struggling with delaying, avoiding, and procrastinating on issues that matter to us.
Human beings have been procrastinating for centuries. The problem is so timeless, in fact, that ancient Greek philosophers like Socrates and Aristotle developed a word to describe this type of behavior: Akrasia.
Akrasia is the state of acting against your better judgment. It is when you do one thing even though you know you should do something else. Loosely translated, you could say that akrasia is procrastination or a lack of self-control.
What is Procrastination? Here’s a modern definition:
Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing a task or set of tasks. So, whether you refer to it as procrastination or akrasia or something else, it is the force that prevents you from following through on what you set out to do.
This is a good time to bring some science into our discussion. Behavioral psychology research has revealed a phenomenon called “time inconsistency,” which helps explain why procrastination seems to pull us in despite our good intentions. Time inconsistency refers to the tendency of the human brain to value immediate rewards more highly than future rewards.
The best way to understand this is by imagining that you have two selves: your Present Self and your Future Self. When you set goals for yourself — like losing weight or writing a book or learning a language — you are actually making plans for your Future Self. You are envisioning what you want your life to be like in the future. Researchers have found that when you think about your Future Self, it is quite easy for your brain to see the value in taking actions with long-term benefits. The Future Self values long-term rewards.
However, while the Future Self can set goals, only the Present Self can take action. When the time comes to make a decision, you are no longer making a choice for your Future Self. Now you are in the present moment, and your brain is thinking about the Present Self. Researchers have discovered that the Present Self really likes instant gratification, not long-term payoff.”

Romans 12:2 Quote Response
The quote is talking about how you shouldn't conform to the world around you and that you should think as your own, unique individual. I agree with this quote, as thinking for yourself and not acting a specific way just to appeal to people is a necessary step for improving yourself to be a better person and achieve personal happiness or enlightenment.

Attitude Blog
If my attitude is the way I talk to myself and what I say to myself, then I have a very productive and explorative attitude. When I "talk" to myself, I usually plan out my day or other various things, and I can also be a bit of a day-dreamer, imaging different realities that our world could have been or the worlds of series that I enjoy.

Choices
I can use my power of free will and choice to positively affect my future by choosing to show up to school and trying my hardest to excel in them to land a good job and further my future. Theoretically, I could also choose to due the opposite, to not show up and not try, which would negatively affect my future, denying me of any decent jobs and making life even harder than it can already be at times. The choices I make in life will be based on doing activites that are healthy for my future.
Comic Strip Planning Assignment
Image Story
My name is Daniel Sanchez, a sixteen year-old sophomore at Newark Learning High School, located in Newark, Ohio. I’m nothing particularly special when it comes to academics, straight B’s since middle school, but I like to think my charming complexion and talent in sports make up for it. I’ve been a resident of Newark my entire life, and anyone that knows me can say first hand that I’m infamous for my overconfidence. Although recently, this characteristic of mine forced me into a life or death situation, an event that ultimately taught me a lesson in being too confident. This is my story, an account of how I survived a face-to-force encounter with a deadly and disastrous F2 tornado.
It started off as an average, run-of-the-mill Tuesday: wake up at six, prepare for the day, catch the bus before seven, arrive at school and head straight to math class at seven-thirty. The year had recently shifted into April, which means Ohio had officially entered its’ tornado season, so severe storms were a common and unsurprising occurrence. Today, the forecasters had said that there would be a thunderstorm with a tornado watch active, but honestly, I stopped putting the entirety of my faith in the weather channel after they once said it would snow several inches, enough for a snow day, yet not a single snowflake fell that day.
Later in the day, during history, I asked to go to the bathroom, but the teacher recommended that I wait as the forecast had stated a high chance of a tornado at the moment. Me, being the overconfident person that I am, claimed I’d be “faster than a tornado” and walked out before they could respond, if only I had known the irony that lay behind my statement. Now, something you need to know about the school itself is that it’s old, which I like to think gives it personality, but does make it less structurally sound than most schools. It also has this weird, separate structure where the nearest bathroom is located. After taking care of my business, I took my time on the way back to class, as I wasn’t exactly in a hurry to get back to history of all things.
That’s when it happened… when the tornado reared it’s wispy head. The first thing I heard were the sirens, causing me to spin my head on a swivel looking for the tornado itself. When I saw it, my eyes widened in fear, I was much closer to it than any sane human being would ever want to be. I booked it to the main building, secretly thanking myself for being athletic, and slammed my through the doors. I stopped in between a doorway to catch my breath, my heart beating out of my chest, and that’s when the unthinkable occurred. The force of the tornado pushed opened the still closing doors behind me, blasting in chilling air and various debris simultaneously, blowing papers and posters off the hallway walls and all over the floor. The debris from the windy vortex flowing through the halls crashed into everything, damaging lockers and wall tiles alike, even the door I had hidden behind had sustained damage. It went on like this for several minutes, but in the fear of the moment it felt like an instant, and once it was all over I collapsed onto the floor.
As I lay there, a realization dawned upon me, a realization that I could I have died, my life could have ceased to exist then and there because of my cockiness. With the tornado gone, the classrooms ceased their tornado protocols, and the teachers exited their classrooms to assess the damages, only to see me there, lying in a field of debris and papers. I slowly and shakily stand up, my history teacher walking toward me to make sure that I was okay, and while physically I may have been fine, mentally I was forever changed. This event changed me, but for the better, from that moment onward I had learned to be less overconfident in myself and to be less selfish in general.

Political Cartoon Assignment
The image above is a political cartoon which commentates on the effects that the ever-growing switch to online shopping, specifically Amazon in this case, has had on physical stores. The cartoon depicts several shopping centers as dinosaurs, a clever use of symbolism to call them ancient, being swept away by the "Amazon" River, to inevitably die off. Vibrant colors are used to make the picture more cartoonish, size isn't used in any particular fashion, and neither is caricature. The artist uses this depiction, which is exaggerated to an extent as shopping centers are not disappearing this rapidly, to address the fact that the convenience and utility of online shopping has rendered actual stores mostly obsolete to the majority of people whom can afford any kind of phone, tablet, or computer. The bias generated by this cartoon is that online shopping has become the new norm and that physical stores will become extinct or near-extinct in the future, which many can agree will happen sooner or later. I personally believe that this depiction of events is mostly accurate, but actual stores still have some advantages over online shopping, as you can go to a store and buy whatever you want right away, not having to wait or pay extra for delivery. Not to mention, not everyone owns a digital device to purchase objects online, and this will likely stay this way for many years, leaving customers for physical stores.
Tell Me A Story Assignment
I chose the presented image to represent an aspect of myself due to the fact that I can be aptly described as, "borderline OCD." Trying to be as perfect as physically possible is a common habit of mine, at times, such as in school and possibly in my future job, it can be an useful asset. At other times, it can be a double-edged sword, whereas my drive to be a perfectionist, in the end, ultimately leads to my own self-destruction, especially during moments where mistakes will be plentiful.

Class Expectations
In this class, I expect to have learned, by the end of the school year, how to effectively and efficiently use several types of digital media, such as designing something on the web, creating animations or visual effects, and editing and producing videos with audio.
What is Digital Media?
Digital Media is a broad spectrum of different medias that are all designed, manufactured, and viewed on digital electronics. The different kinds of media included in digital media are web design, animation, visual effects, video production, social media, and apps.
